Insurance and Uninsured

Assembly member Paul Krekorian's (D-Burbank) AB 2847 has been amended to shift the burden of proof in service denials to health plans from members and permit health care providers to appeal a service denial to the Department of Managed Health Care or the Department of Insurance (Bill text, 3/13). The Assembly Health Committee is considering the bill (Bill status, 3/13).

Amendments to AB 3027 by Assembly member Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) would require DMHC and the Department of Insurance to collaborate on a brochure in multiple languages instructing health plan members on how to obtain interpreter services. The brochure would have to be ready by March 2009 (Bill text, 3/13). The bill is before the Assembly Health Committee (Bill status, 3/13).
