The county is responsible for providing indigent people with healthcare, and if the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion is scuttled and people lose coverage, the county could face at least $75 million in increased medical costs. ... Gov. Jerry Brown has proposed eliminating the Coordinated Care Initiative demonstration project that allows Medi-Cal and Medicare. That allows enrollees to receive coordinated healthcare along with social, in-home and behavioral wellness programs with the goal of providing better care and saving money in the long run.
