Sustained Decline In California Teen Births

According to data collected by the California Department of Public Health, the number of teenagers giving birth declined 50 percent between 2000 and 2013, the most recent year for which statistics are available. Between 2012 and 2013, the adolescent birth rate decreased 11 percent.

The birth rate among females aged 15-17 dropped 58 percent since 2000. Among 18- to 19-year-olds to rate went down 48 percent. In 2013, 21,974 children were born to California mothers aged 18-19, 8,525 to mothers aged 15 -17 and an additional 315 were born to mothers under age 15.
