California’s teen birth rate hit a record low in 2014 of 20.8 births per 1,000 female adolescents ages 15 to 19, according to new data from the California Department of Public Health. That is a 10 percent drop from 2013 and a 55 percent drop from 2000.
The birth rates of all racial and ethnic groups declined from 2000 to 2014, the data show. The rate dropped from 77.3 to 31.3 per 1,000 among Hispanics; from 59.1 to 24.6 per 1,000 among African-Americans; from 22.3 to 8.4 per 1,000 among whites; and from 15.0 to 3.7 per 1,000 among Asians.
