In a California Healthline Special Report by Kenny Goldberg, experts discussed how palliative care services are becoming more prevalent as California hospitals seek to improve patient care and lower costs.
Judy Citko — executive director of the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California — says the next step is to expand palliative treatment beyond hospitals so patients can access such services from their homes, clinics, nursing facilities and other settings.
The Special Report includes comments from:
- Parag Bharadwaj, medical director of palliative care services at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center;
- Citko;
- Suzi Johnson, vice president of Sharp HospiceCare; and
- Steven Oppenheim, chief medical director of the Institute of Palliative Medicine (Goldberg, California Healthline, 10/10).
