In a California Healthline Special Report, David Brailer — former national coordinator for health IT — and CalPERS spokesperson Clark McKinley discussed the launch of Brailer’s private equity fund.
CalPERS for the first year is expected to be the sole investor in the fund, called Health Evolution Partners.
The fund will invest in companies that can improve quality and efficiency while increasing consumer control of health care, Brailer said.
Brailer and McKinley also discussed:
- Investments that could target underserved patients in rural areas of California;
- How ventures in California could serve as a nationwide model; and
- Plans for opening the fund to other investors (Rebillot, California Healthline, 6/15).
