Can Raising the State’s Minimum Wage Improve Public Health?

In a California Healthline report by Rachel Dornhelm, experts discussed research efforts to gauge public health effects of public policy decisions — such as the recent effort to increase the minimum wage, which some researchers say could mean long-range health improvements for lower-income Californians.

The report includes comments from:

  • Rajiv Bhatia, visiting scholar at the UC-Berkeley School of Public Health;
  • Gerald Kominski, director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research; Mark Leno, state senator from San Francisco;
  • Mike Schommer, communications director for the Minnesota Department of Health; and
  • Lea Selitsky, a Wayne State University medical student (Dornhelm, California Healthline, 7/9/14).
