In a California Healthline Special Report by Kenny Goldberg, experts discussed a recent Leapfrog Group report card that gave more than 40% of California hospitals a grade of C or lower for patient safety.
Some hospital officials criticized the way Leapfrog Group calculated the hospital patient safety scores, saying the data used were more than two years old. However, Leapfrog Group officials say the report card accurately reflects hospital performance and should encourage facilities to step up their patient safety efforts.
The Special Report includes comments from:
- Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group;
- Jan Emerson-Shea, vice president for external affairs at the California Hospital Association;
- Ashish Jha, associate professor of health policy at the Harvard School of Public Health; and
- Nancy Pratt, senior vice president for clinical effectiveness at Sharp HealthCare (Goldberg, California Healthline, 7/11).
