California health officials have fined Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City $47,450 for mistakenly removing a woman’s ovaries in 2016. The fine against Sequoia, which is owned by the Northern California health system Dignity Health, is one of 17 civil penalties lodged against 14 California hospitals for incidents that caused serious injury or death. Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Fined $75,000 In Connection With Patient Death
Bakersfield Memorial Hospital has been fined $75,000 after a state investigation determined nurses failed to provide adequate supervision to a patient who choked to death last March, according to a California Department of Public Health investigation. The administrative penalty is the third Bakersfield Memorial has received since 2009, CDPH records show. The hospital, which operates under the umbrella of Dignity Health, was cited in 2014 for not following established policies and procedures for patient monitoring and intervention, and again in 2009 for not having properly functioning anesthesia equipment. Garden Grove Hospital has been fined $75,000 for the 2014 death of a 26-year-old woman from China who hemorrhaged after giving birth, the California Department of Public Health announced Thursday, April 20.
