AB 253 by Assembly member Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park) would eliminate the Medical Board of California's licensing and medical quality divisions. The board as a whole would assume the divisions' physician and surgeon oversight duties (Bill Text, 2/5).

Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata (D-Oakland) introduced legislation (SB 171) that would require general acute-care hospitals to identify patients for whom hospital personnel might need lift teams or devices to lift, reposition or transfer. The measure also would require hospitals to train health care workers on the appropriate use of the equipment (Bill Text, 2/4).
