Attorney General’s Office Launches Elder Abuse Campaign
The Attorney General's Office has initiated an elder abuse awareness program in English and Spanish featuring a toll-free hotline to report suspected abuse cases, the Fresno Bee reports. Cases that involve abuse or neglect at a licensed care facility will be directed to an ombudsman crisis line, while all other calls will be reported to the closest Adult Protective Services office. The education campaign, called "Face It. It's A Crime," is funded by $6 million approved by the Legislature in 2000 and is targeted at seven counties, including Tulare and Fresno counties (Lopez, Fresno Bee, 12/1).
