CONTRA COSTA: John Muir And Mount Diablo Dish Out $478,000 In Grants
John Muir and Mount Diablo hospitals' charity arm announced yesterday that it will award $478,000 in community health grants to 14 Contra Costa County programs. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the "recipients range from mental health counselors for a Pittsburg elementary school" to health education for elderly refugees from Russia and Afghanistan. A $56,000 grant -- the largest of the 14 -- went to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for a program that will "train welfare recipients as home health workers." The hospitals will distribute $700,000 more in grants this year, said Grace Caliendo, executive director of the program (6/9).
