County Nurses Approve Strike Measure
Nurses at more than 40 locations in San Mateo County agreed to a two-day strike May 17 and 18 to protest stalled contract negotiations, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The strike would involve 380 nurses at acute care facilities, mental health offices, jails and other health centers.
Contract negotiations stalled last week after the county and the California Nurses Association did not reach an agreement on retiree health benefits, a new pension plan and wages. Further negotiations have not been scheduled (Lagos, San Francisco Chronicle, 5/9).
According to county officials, the strike could affect thousands of patients in the region (Carpenter, San Francisco Examiner, 5/9).
CNA and county officials have been negotiating terms of an agreement for three months (Ernde, Oakland Tribune, 5/9).
