Delta Dental Merges With Subsidiary
PMI Dental Health Plan on Tuesday announced its merger with parent company Delta Dental of California, the Sacramento Business Journal reports (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 1/2). The merger will take effect immediately (Colliver, San Francisco Chronicle, 1/3).
PMI was bought by Delta Dental in 1985 but has operated under a separate health care license.
The merger will not affect employees, enrollees or contracts but will eliminate duplicative processes, Delta spokesperson Jeff Album said (Sacramento Business Journal, 1/2).
Cerritos-based PMI offers the DeltaCare USA prepaid HMO dental plan in California. About 25% of California dentists carry the plan, which serves 900,000 members.
Delta Dental has about 21 million members nationwide, including 15 million in California (San Francisco Chronicle, 1/2).
The Department of Managed Health Care approved the merger (Sacramento Business Journal, 1/2).
