at California hospitals in 1994, the highest one-year increase
ever recorded for an illicit drug in the state. According to
researchers at the Irvine-based Public Statistics Institute,
emergency room admissions linked to amphetamine use remained
relatively level between 1985 and 1990, but "took off"
starting in 1991.
