Health Plans
AB 2569 by Assembly member Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) would require insurers to offer coverage to people whose coverage was improperly canceled or rescinded. The bill was amended to permit consumers to buy into a plan with equal or lower benefits than the plans they were dropped from (Bill text, 7/2). The measure is before the Senate Appropriations Committee (Bill status, 7/2).
The Legislature has approved AB 1150 by Assembly member Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) (Bill status, 7/7). The bill would bar insurers from basing employees' compensation in any way on the number of policies they rescind or cancel, or on the value of claims that are denied (Bill text, 1/16).
