AB 2654 by Assembly member John Laird (D-Santa Cruz) was amended to prohibit health plans from restricting coverage or canceling coverage for individuals with disabilities or prior medical conditions (Bill text, 4/23). This bill has been re-referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee (Bill status, 4/23).
A bill (AB 2847) by Assembly member Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank) was amended to shift the burden of proof in lawsuits challenging health plans' denials to cover medical services. Under the bill, health plans would have to prove that a denied service was not medically necessary when a health care provider determined that it was necessary (Bill text, 4/23). The bill was re-referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee (Bill status, 4/23).
AB 16 by Assembly member Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) was amended to require health plans to cover a human papillomavirus vaccination if the vaccination is recommended by a licensed health practitioner.
