Health Policy Update
Pay-for-performance systems can improve quality of care, but the competition such systems create might not be appropriate in a health care setting, researchers from Columbia University found. According to a study in the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, the benefits of pay-for-performance programs could be maximized by providing more stringent monitoring for antitrust violations and increasing government involvement in designing such programs.
