HOSPITAL QUALITY: St. John’s Hospitals Receive ‘Prestigious’ Award
St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo and St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard have been awarded the 1998 California Governor's Golden State Quality Award, the Ventura County Star reports. St. John's Vice President Dr. Ross DiBernardo said the award goes to "organizations with a high level of customer and employee satisfaction" that exhibit ongoing improvement. "It's a management award that can be applied to any organization. Hospitals and other health care organizations are just getting into this, so we feel pretty good that we won," he said. The hospitals received the award for their "new customer satisfaction procedures" and for giving employees greater input into managerial-type decisions. Judges visited the hospitals last summer to inspect their management procedures and to make recommendations on how to improve the management system, DiBernardo said (Davis, 2/16).
