Los Angeles City Council Approves Proposal To Study Prescription Drug Reimportation Program
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday voted unanimously to look into establishing a Web site to help residents reimport medications from Canada, the Los Angeles Times reports. Council member Dennis Zine proposed allowing reimportation in February 2004, but the city's legal experts said it would be illegal for the city to purchase medications from abroad. However, they said it would not be illegal to create a Web site to help residents buy prescription drugs from Canada. If approved, the Web site could be running by this summer and would most likely be modeled after a similar Web site created by the San Francisco Department of Public Health (Hymon, Los Angeles Times, 2/17).
