Medicare Begins Coverage of New Cancer Screenings
HHS announced last Friday that beginning this month, Medicare will cover screening tests for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers, the Baltimore Sun reports. Under a law passed by Congress in December 2000, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly HCFA) will phase in coverage for "certain tests and therapies" that detect diseases early to facilitate treatment (Baltimore Sun, 6/30).
