Restaurant Owners Argue Against Mandatory Paid Sick Leave in California
KPCC's "Patt Morrison" on Tuesday included a discussion about a bill (AB 2716) that would require employers in California to offer paid sick leave to employees.
The bill, by Assembly member Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco), is modeled after a San Francisco paid sick leave law that took effect last year. Ma says the bill would prevent employees from coming to work sick and spreading their illnesses.
Opponents, including the National Restaurant Association, say the measure would hurt small businesses' bottom lines.
Guests on the program included:
- Howard Fine, staff reporter for the Los Angeles Business Journal;
- Ma; and
- Kevin Westlye, executive director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association (Morrison, "Patt Morrison," KPCC, 3/4).
