Schwarzenegger Announces Appointments
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) on Monday announced several appointments to state boards and agencies, including the following health-related positions:
- Michael Bowman (R) of Sacramento was appointed assistant associate secretary of communications for the Health and Human Services Agency. Bowman previously served as director of government affairs for the California Business Roundtable and was director of public affairs for the California Infrastructure Coalition. The position does not require Senate confirmation. Compensation is $90,000 annually.
- Gary Gitnick of Encino was appointed to the Division of Licensing on the Medical Board of California. Gitnick has been a member of the board since 2000 and was board president from 2002 to 2003. Gitnick currently is a professor of medicine and chief of the digestive diseases division at the University of California-Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine. Compensation is $100 per diem for the position, which requires Senate confirmation. Gitnick declined to state his party affiliation on his voter registration (Office of the Governor release, 7/31).
