SOUTH VALLEY: Columbia Looking to Sell Gilroy Facility
Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. has announced its intention to sell its South Valley Hospital in Gilroy, according to Frankie Munoz, the hospital's marketing and public relations manager. "They're currently talking to someone, but I'm not at liberty to say to whom or what kind of deal is involved. ... In reality, there have been talks about (long-range plans for) South Valley since it was purchased" in 1996, he said. "I'm not sure what their thoughts are, but they probably have to do with the market," he added. The San Jose Mercury News reports that Munoz acknowledged it is a possibility that the potential sale indicates that Valley was the least profitable hospital in the Columbia/HCA chain. He said he "didn't expect an announcement about the fate of South Valley Hospital 'in the near future'" (Rodebaugh, 3/30).
