The Assembly amended SB 1260 by Sen. Deborah Ortiz (D-Los Angeles) to require a physician and surgeon to provide a woman who is donating eggs for research or the development of medical therapies with a standardized written summary of health and consumer issues prior to obtaining informed consent from the patient. The bill would prohibit payment for eggs that is greater than the cost of paying a woman to produce oocytes for medical research. The measures states that it is not intended as a modification of Proposition 71 (Bill text, 8/21). The Assembly will hear the third reading of the measure (Bill status, 8/23).
