Ventura County To Consider Launching Children’s Health Initiative
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will vote on whether to assess the cost of creating a program to provide low-cost health insurance to all uninsured children, the Los Angeles Times reports. The vote is the first step toward creating a version of the Children's Health Initiative, a statewide campaign to expand health insurance coverage among children.
Officials estimate that about 27,000 Ventura County children are eligible for but not enrolled in public health insurance programs, while another 5,000 children are not eligible for such programs and are uninsured.
Board Chair Kathy Long said if the program is approved, an enrollment office could be opened in Santa Paula or Fillmore as soon as September (Saillant, Los Angeles Times, 6/9).
