34K New Enrollees Have Selected Plans Through Covered California
On Thursday, Covered California officials announced that more than 34,000 new consumers so far have selected health plans during the exchange's third open enrollment period, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
The enrollment period started Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 31, 2016.
Details of Enrollment
According to Executive Director Peter Lee, as of Nov. 17, about 2,000 new enrollees per day had signed up for coverage during the current open enrollment period, representing "very strong enrollment" this early in the sign-up period.
The exchange currently has about 1.3 million policyholders.
Covered California expects a total of 295,000 to 450,000 new enrollees by the end of January, according to the Business Journal. Spikes in enrollment are expected in mid-December -- the deadline for selecting coverage that will take effect by Jan. 1 -- and in mid-January as the enrollment period nears its end.
Lee said, "I'm confident we'll see strong enrollment" (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 11/20).
