Advocates Call On California Lawmakers To Reject Medi-Cal Changes
On Tuesday, the California Center for Research on Women and Families convened a policy summit that called on legislators to block proposals by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to tighten eligibility guidelines for Medi-Cal, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program (Hubert, Sacramento Bee, 1/14).
The governor's proposal calls for increasing the income eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal to pre-2000 levels (California Healthline, 1/5).
The summit is intended to highlight for state lawmakers issues that affect working families, such as welfare and mental health. The summit also advocated that legislators rework California's food stamp program and take action on affordable housing and foreclosures (Sacramento Bee, 1/14).
