Advocates Criticize Oversight of Nursing Home Safety
Patient advocates are criticizing the Department of Public Health for failing to act on reports by the California Attorney General's office that found health and safety violations at 14 nursing homes in the state. The violations -- which span from January 2010 to March 2012 -- have been submitted to DPH, but only one citation has been issued. In a written response, DPH said that ensuring safety and care quality is a top priority and that the agency is reviewing the 14 facilities' records.
