Aide Touts Governor’s Plan for Insuring Children
Health and Human Services Agency Assistant Secretary David Topp and Monterey County health officials on Friday discussed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) proposal to use $72.2 million to provide medical coverage for more uninsured children in the state, the Monterey Herald reports.
Schwarzenegger's proposal would enroll about 400,000 children in Medi-Cal and Healthy Families and help retain children who are enrolled in the programs. About $20 million would be used for outreach and enrollment efforts.
The proposals also would simplify the applications process for the programs by making it computer accessible.
Topp asked health officials for ideas on improving programs that provide medical, dental and vision coverage at no cost. Officials also addressed Medi-Cal reimbursement rates, childhood obesity and dental care (Purewal, Monterey Herald, 2/18).
