AL GORE: Responds Online to HealthVote 2000 Queries
In response to the HealthVote 2000 surveys, Al Gore reacted to many of the Californians' concerns on his Web site, www.gore 2000.org. Answering how he plans to provide coverage for the uninsured, Gore stated: " ... I have a proposal that ... assures every single child access to affordable coverage and makes health care more affordable to millions of adults ... I have also supported increasing ... safety-net providers ... and public hospitals." Responding to concerns about prescription drug costs, Gore stated: " ... I have proposed a benefit ... [that] has no deductible and helps seniors until they reach $5,000 of costs." Gore also noted that "throughout [his] career, [he has] supported making generic drugs more available." Gore also stated, "I believe that we need a strong enforceable patients' bill of rights that assures that patients have the quality health care that they need and deserve and so that informed health professionals, rather than accountants, can make medical decisions" (www.gore2000.org, 3/1).
