Angelides: Gov. Broke Pledge on Children’s Health Care
Democratic gubernatorial nominee Phil Angelides has been "trying to undercut public trust" in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) by highlighting what he claims are inconsistencies in his record, especially with issues involving health care, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Angelides last week criticized Schwarzenegger for vetoing children's health insurance legislation that would have provided coverage to hundreds of thousands of children in the state. Angelides said the governor has broken his 2003 promise to expand children's health insurance programs.
Schwarzenegger said he vetoed the bill because no clear funding source for the program was identified. Last week, Schwarzenegger said expanding children's health coverage would be a priority of his second term (Finnegan, Los Angeles Times, 6/15).
