Anthem Blue Cross Hires New President Following Predecessor’s Departure
On Monday, Anthem Blue Cross named Pam Kehaly -- former president of national accounts for health insurer Aetna -- as its new president and general manager, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Background on Anthem
Last week, Anthem's former president Leslie Margolin resigned from her position after facing months of criticism over the insurer's proposed premium increases.
Earlier this year, Anthem announced planned rate hikes of up to 39% for many of its approximately 800,000 policyholders with individual health insurance plans. The insurer canceled the premium increases in April after investigations uncovered discrepancies in its rate filing (Olivarez-Giles, Los Angeles Times, 7/27).
Both Margolin and Anthem said her departure is unrelated to the rate hikes (California Healthline, 7/21).
New Role for Kehaly
Kehaly previously spent 20 years working for Anthem's parent company, Wellpoint, before taking a position with Aetna (Calvan, Sacramento Bee, 7/26).
When she assumes her new position with Anthem on Aug. 30, Kehaly will manage account services, consumer relations, marketing, sales, underwriting and product delivery (Los Angeles Times, 7/27).
