Array of Health Reforms on the Table This Year
A health care proposal by Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) "joins an array of proposals already being advanced" by the White House, several states, lawmakers, and insurance and consumer groups, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Health care is emerging as key issue in the 2008 elections, and Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.) likely will introduce proposals soon.
The Journal reports that "the chances of any of these proposals being enacted this year are slim," but "if Congress and the White House are looking to make a deal on something major, they might look to health care."
The Journal profiles health coverage proposals from:
-
President Bush;
- Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.);
- Edwards; and
- Health Coverage Coalition for the Uninsured.
In addition, the Journal examines Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) health care reform proposal, as well as a Pennsylvania proposal and Massachusetts' health insurance law (Meckler, Wall Street Journal, 2/6).
