Assembly OKs Legislation To Ban ‘Conversion’ Therapy
On Tuesday, the Assembly approved a bill (SB 1172), by Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), that would ban sexual orientation "conversion" treatment for teens. Supporters of the measure say the therapy has no medical benefits and can lead to depression and suicide, while opponents of the bill say it infringes upon parents' rights to provide psychological care for their children. The bill, the first of its kind in the U.S., returns to the Senate for a final vote.
