Bakersfield Group Aims To Boost Knowledge of End-of-Life Care Law
The Greater Bakersfield Better Care Coalition is sponsoring an effort to raise public awareness of a new state law that requires health care providers to comply with Physician's Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment, a form that spells out a patient's end-of-life care wishes, the Bakersfield Californian reports.
The law took effect this year.
Patients complete the POLST form with their physician, specifying what level of care should be provided in emergency situations.
The California HealthCare Foundation provided $40,000 to fund the effort (Shepard, Bakersfield Californian, 4/15).
