BLUE CROSS OF CALIFORNIA: HMO Named Best Health Care Plan
The Pacific Business Group on Health has named Blue Cross of California the state's best HMO, based on its third annual consumer survey, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. About 40,000 Californians responded, rating Blue Cross "tops in terms of cost, member satisfaction and other factors like preventive health care programs." Tama Donaldson, a manager with PBGH, said "HMOs in California are not all created equal." The survey named Hill Physicians Medical Group in San Ramon the best medical group in the state. For the first time, PBGH also chose the state's best hospitals. In the Bay Area, California Pacific Medical Center and Mills Peninsula Hospital made the list of seven that won blue ribbons for excellence; in Southern California, UCLA Medical Center topped the list (Abate, 9/24).
