Blue Shield To Award $29.6M in Performance Bonuses to Physicians
On Wednesday, Blue Shield of California announced that it would award $29.6 million in bonuses this year to California physician groups as part of a pay-for-performance program, the San Francisco Business Times reports.
The insurer will distribute $12.5 million, or about 42% of its payout, through the Integrated Healthcare Association's statewide pay-for-performance initiative and $9.6 million though the insurer's own Performance Improvement Rewards Program.
Blue Shield will disburse the remaining $7.5 million through shared savings and incentive programs with contracting physician groups.
In addition, Blue Shield announced that it will offer guidance and resources to medical practices that did not achieve high performance scores (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 10/7).
