California Developmental Centers Fined for Abuse, Neglect That Led to 13 Deaths Since 2002
Since 2002, 13 patients have died as the result of abuse and neglect at state-run homes for individuals with developmental disabilities, according to records from the California Department of Public Health. Several centers were fined, including the Sonoma Developmental Center, Lanterman Developmental Center in Pomona and the Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa, where six of the 13 deaths occurred.
