Calif. Healthcare Institute, Bay Area Bioscience Association To Merge
On Monday, the California Healthcare Institute and the Bay Area Bioscience Association announced that they will merge next year to create a new advocacy organization, Modern Healthcare reports.
Collectively, the two groups represent nearly 1,300 companies (Rubenfire, Modern Healthcare, 12/8).
Details of New Organization
The merger is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015, and the resulting organization will be called the California Biomedical Innovation Alliance (Rauber, "Bay Area BizTalk," San Francisco Business Times, 12/8).
The alliance's leadership will include:
- Rick Winningham, current CHI chair, who will serve as chair of the new organization;
- Hal Van Wart, current Bay Area Bioscience Association chair, who will serve as vice chair of the new group; and
- Sara Radcliffe, current executive vice president for health at the Biotechnology Industry Organization, who will serve as president and CEO of the new group.
The alliance's offices will be located in:
- Sacramento;
- San Diego; and
- San Francisco.
The group also will operate a satellite office in Washington, D.C. (Modern Healthcare, 12/8).
