Calif. Lawmakers, County Officials Call for Increased Funding Under Prison Realignment Plan
During a Public Policy Institute of California panel discussion on Monday, California lawmakers -- including state Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) -- called for increased reporting requirements and additional mental health and rehabilitation funding under the state's prison realignment plan. Meanwhile, county-level officials across the state are urging Gov. Jerry Brown's (D) administration to provide more funding for additional jail space, inmate mental health counseling and other programs under the realignment plan.
