California Breaks Top Half in Annual State Health Rankings
In terms of overall health, California is ranked the 24th healthiest state in the nation in a United Health Foundation study released Monday, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
The study found that:
- California's uninsured rate -- 18.5% -- exceeds the national average of 15.5%;
- 23.2% of California residents are considered obese, the ninth-highest percentage in the nation; and
- Incidence of infectious disease in the state decreased by 10% in 2008.
The study ranked Vermont the healthiest state in the nation and Louisiana the least healthy (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 12/8).
