California, Canadian Province Partner on Cancer Research
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) on Wednesday signed an agreement with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty to foster collaboration among stem cell researchers working on cancer projects in the Canadian province and California, the Toronto Star reports (Benzie/Ferguson, Toronto Star, 5/31).
Under the project, scientists from the Stem Cell Center at UC-Berkeley will coordinate research with colleagues at Canada's International Regulome Consortium (Office of the Governor release, 5/30).
McGuinty is committing about $28 million to the initiative, which he said will search for "a lasting cure for cancer."
At their meeting, Schwarzenegger and McGuinty also signed an agreement to collaborate on policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (Reuters/Orange County Register, 5/30).
