California Cities Ranked for Health and Safety, Active Lifestyles
Several California cities are among the best and worst U.S. cities for economic wellbeing and health and safety, according to a recent WalletHub report, the OC Weekly's "Navel Gazing" reports (Coker, "Navel Gazing," OC Weekly, 12/10).
The report ranked 150 U.S. cities, including 29 California cities.
Specifically, California cities that ranked highest on the list were:
- Huntington Beach, which ranked 2nd overall;
- Fremont, which ranked 9th;
- Rancho Cucamonga, which ranked 10th; and
- Irvine, which ranked 11th.
The lowest-ranking California cities were:
- San Bernardino, which ranked 129th;
- Fresno, which ranked 131st; and
- Los Angeles, which ranked 133rd (Bernardo [1], WalletHub report, December 2014).
Active Lifestyle Rankings
Meanwhile, 17 California cities were included in a separate WalletHub report that ranked 100 U.S. cities for active lifestyles.
The ratings were based on the percentage of people who participate in physical activity, the number of swimming pools per capita and other metrics.
The highest-ranking cities in California were:
- Irvine, which ranked 7th overall;
- San Diego, which ranked 18th; and
- Sacramento, which ranked 23rd.
The lowest-ranking California cities were:
- Bakersfield, which ranked 71st;
- Los Angeles, which ranked 85th; and
- Fresno, which ranked 86th (Bernardo [2], WalletHub report, December 2014).
