California Health Care Personnel News Roundup for September 2014
Alameda Health System
On Sept. 26, Alameda Health System announced that CEO Wright Lassiter will leave the organization on Dec. 12.
Lassiter will begin a new position as president of Michigan-based Henry Ford Health System on Dec. 15 (Rauber, "Bay Area BizTalk," San Francisco Business Times, 9/29).
Association of California Healthcare Districts
Kenneth Cohen will be the new executive director at the Association of California Healthcare Districts, effective on Oct. 20.
Cohen previously served as director of the San Joaquin County Health Care Services Agency (ACHD release, 9/25).
California Board of Behavioral Sciences
On Sept. 10, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Scott Bowling to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
The position requires Senate confirmation, and compensation is $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 9/10).
California Healthcare Institute
On Sept. 8, the California Healthcare Institute announced it appointed Meghan Drenan as associate director of federal government relations.
Drenan previously served as legislative counsel for Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) (CHI release, 9/8).
California Board of Podiatric Medicine
On Sept. 3, Brown appointed Judith Manzi (D) to the California Board of Podiatric Medicine.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 9/3).
California Integrated Data Exchange
On Sept. 2, David Watson was named CEO of the California Integrated Data Exchange.
Watson previously was global vice president for health care product strategy at Oracle (Cal INDEX release, 9/2).
Meanwhile, Cal INDEX has named two new directors to its board:
- Mark Savage, director of health IT policy at the National Partnership for Women & Families; and
- Beth Ginzinger, vice president of provider joint ventures for Anthem Blue Cross' West Region (Frank, Modern Healthcare, 9/29).
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
On Sept. 19, Brown appointed Chuck Supple (D) to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Board of Parole Hearings' Juvenile Division.
The position requires Senate confirmation, and annual compensation is $117,504 (Office of the Governor release, 9/19).
California Department of Public Health
On Sept. 3, Brown appointed Kevin Sherin as deputy director of the California Department of Public Health's Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and annual compensation is $176,136 (Office of the Governor release, 9/3).
California State Council on Developmental Disabilities
On Sept. 3, Brown appointed Laura Lee Corrodi to Area Board IX of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities (Office of the Governor release, 9/3).
On Sept. 30, Brown made two additional appointments to the council:
- Charles Horne-Nutte (D) to Area Board II; and
- Sandra Aldana (D) to Area Board IX.
All of the positions do not require Senate confirmation, and there is no compensation (Office of the Governor release, 9/30).
CalPERS
CalPERS has hired Ted Eliopoulos as its chief investment officer, replacing the late Joseph Dear.
Eliopoulos has been serving as the pension fund's interim CIO since June and has worked as a senior investment officer at CalPERS since 2007 (Young, Sacramento Business Journal, 9/18).
Meanwhile, CalPERS announced that Theresa Taylor has been elected to its Board of Administration and current board member Priya Mathur has been re-elected to the panel. They each will serve four-year terms beginning Jan. 16, 2015 (Ortiz, "The State Worker," Sacramento Bee, 10/1).
Esri Health
Esri Health has announced that Este Geraghty joined the organization to manage its health and human services division.
Geraghty formerly was deputy director of the California Department of Health's Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (Forrester, GovWire, 9/5).
Kaiser Permanente
Kaiser Permanente Chief Information Officer Philip Fasano is leaving the organization to take a position with American International Group.
Fasano will replace Robert Dickie, who left AIG in February (Rauber, "Bay Area BizTalk," San Francisco Business Times, 9/15).
Physical Therapy Board of California
On Sept. 3, Brown appointed Jesus Dominguez (R) to the Physical Therapy Board of California.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 9/3).
Rideout Health
Former UC-Davis Medical Center CEO Bob Chason has been named interim CEO of Rideout Health, a Yuba City-based not-for-profit community health system.
Rideout also announced that UC-Davis trauma surgeon David Wisner has been named the system's new chief medical officer (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 9/5).
Satellite Healthcare
Rick Barnett has been named president and CEO of San Jose-based Satellite Healthcare.
Barnett previously was senior vice president of the west coast region of VHA, a provider of group purchasing and supply chain services for health care providers (Satellite Healthcare release, 9/10).
Sutter Davis Hospital, Mills-Peninsula Health Services
Janet Wagner, former CEO of Sutter Davis Hospital, has been named CEO of Mills-Peninsula Health Services, another Sutter Health affiliate.
Jennifer Maher was named the new CEO of Sutter Davis Health. Maher previously served as an oncology executive for Sutter's Sacramento Sierra region (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 9/29).
Sutter Health
Gordon Hunt, CMO of Sutter Health, has announced he will retire in April 2015.
He has serves as CMO for the entire system since 1997. A replacement has not yet been selected (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 9/12).
