California Health Care Personnel News Update for April 2009
California Health and Human Services Agency
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has appointed Jonah Frohlich (D) deputy secretary for health information technology at the California Health and Human Services Agency.
Since 2004, Frohlich has served as senior program officer for the California HealthCare Foundation. CHCF is the publisher of California Healthline.
Senate confirmation is required for this position. Annual compensation is $126,588 (Office of the governor release, 4/17).
California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco
California Pacific Medical Center has named Warren Browner CEO, the San Francisco Business Times reports.
Previously, Browner served as CPMC's vice president for academic affairs and was a member of its executive management team (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 4/6).
Children's Hospital Central California, Fresno
William Haug will step down as CEO of Children's Hospital Central California in late 2010, the Fresno Bee reports.
Board Chair Greg Coleman said Haug decided he would pursue new opportunities when his contract expired.
Haug has been the hospital's CEO for 10 years (Anderson, Fresno Bee, 4/15).
Hospice of Humboldt, Eureka
Ellen Mahoney will serve as Hospice of Humboldt's new medical director, the Eureka Times-Standard reports.
Mahoney replaces John Nelson, who has been deployed to Iraq (Eureka Times-Standard, 4/6).
Kaiser Permanente
Jed Weissberg has been named senior vice president of quality and care delivery excellence at Kaiser Permanente, the Business Times reports.
Previously, Weissberg served as associate executive director of quality and performance improvement for Kaiser's Permanente Federation, which connects Kaiser medical groups nationwide (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 4/14).
Laguna Honda Hospital, San Francisco
Mivic Horose has been appointed executive administrator for Laguna Honda Hospital, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The previous administrator died unexpectedly in March.
Hirose previously served as chief nursing officer at the facility (Knight, San Francisco Chronicle, 4/23).
Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center, Thousand Oaks
Greg Angle took over as president and CEO of Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in mid-April, the Ventura County Star reports.
Most recently, Angle served as CEO of Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. (Biasotti, Ventura County Star, 4/16).
Merced County Public Health Department
John Volanti, Merced County's public health director, has announced that he will retire in a year, the Merced Sun-Star reports (Jason, Merced Sun-Star, 4/14).
Northern California Cancer Center
Sally Glaser has been named CEO of the Northern California Cancer Center, where she has worked for 19 years, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal reports.
She most recently served as director of surveillance research at NCCC (Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, 4/14).
Shasta Regional Medical Center, Redding
Randall Hempling is the new CEO at Shasta Regional Medical Center, the Redding Record Searchlight reports.
Until he resigned in January, Hempling was CEO of MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, N.M. (Benda, Redding Record Searchlight, 4/20).
