California Health Care Personnel News Update for March 2013
California Board of Pharmacy
On March 6, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Lavanza Butler to the state Board of Pharmacy.
Butler -- a pharmacist -- is vice president and union representative at United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 770.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 3/6).
California Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities
On March 15, Gov. Brown appointed Sarah Triano (D) executive officer of the state Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and annual compensation is $81,732.
California Department of Veterans Affairs
On March 15, Gov. Brown appointed Deborah Harper as deputy secretary of administrative services at the state Department of Veterans Affairs.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and annual compensation is $117,120.
California Office of the Patient Advocate
On March 15, Gov. Brown appointed Amy Krause (R) as director and patient advocate at the state Office of the Patient Advocate.
The position requires Senate confirmation, and annual compensation is $132,444 (Office of the Governor release, 3/15).
California State Council on Developmental Disabilities
On March 22, Gov. Brown made five appointments to the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities:
- Jonine Biesman (D), a board-certified pediatric neuropsychologist, was appointed to Area Board X;
- Jeana Ericksen (D), who has served on the council since 2010, was appointed to Area Board IV;
- Verdine Mertens (R), who has served on the council since 2010, was appointed to Area Board II;
- Rosanna Ryan (D), who has served on the council since 2010, was appointed to Area Board II; and
- Robert Taylor (D), an adviser for the Board Resource Center since 2009, was appointed to Area Board I.
The positions do not require Senate confirmation, and there is no compensation (Office of the Governor release, 3/22).
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Newport Beach
Robert Braithwaite has been promoted to CEO of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, where he previously served as COO.
He succeeds Richard Afable, who has been named CEO of the Covenant Health Network (Payers & Providers, 3/7).
Seton Medical Center, Daly City
The Daughters of Charity Health System has named Joanne Allen president and CEO of its Seton Medical Center in Daly City.
Allen formerly was the chief administrative officer at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy.
She will take the position at Seton on April 2, replacing interim CEO James Schuessler (Rauber, "BizTalk," San Francisco Business Times, 3/25).
UC-San Francisco School of Pharmacy
B. Joseph Guglielmo has been named dean of the UC-San Francisco School of Pharmacy, the San Francisco Business Times reports.
Guglielmo has served as interim dean since July 2012.
