California Health Care Personnel News Update for October 2008
California Commission on Health and Safety Workers' Compensation
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has reappointed Catherine Aguilar (R) to the Commission on Health and Safety Workers' Compensation. She has served on the commission since 2007.
Aguilar is a workers' compensation consultant at Gitter and Associates and has held a variety of workers' compensation-related positions at other organizations since at least 1999.
Compensation is $100 per diem for the position, which does not require Senate confirmation (Office of the Governor release, 10/29).
California Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee
Schwarzenegger has appointed Carmen Puliafito to the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee. Since 2007, he has been dean of medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine.
Senate confirmation is not required for the position, which includes compensation of $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 10/24).
Catholic Healthcare West
Bill Hunt and Marvin O'Quinn have been named chief operating officers at Catholic Healthcare West, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
Each will be responsible for about half of the health system's 41 hospitals and medical centers in California, Nevada and Arizona.
Hunt assumed his new position Oct. 1, and O'Quinn will begin on Jan. 1 (Sacramento Business Journal, 10/14).
Chula Vista Veteran's Home
The governor has appointed Jimmy Miller (R) skilled nursing facility administrator at the Chula Vista Veteran's Home.
Since April 2008, Miller has worked as a skilled nursing facility administrator consultant. Miller also works as a real estate consultant for Prudential California Realty.
Compensation is $98,400 for the position, which does not require Senate confirmation (Office of the Governor release, 10/29).
Coalinga State Hospital
Joginder Singh (D) has been named medical director of Coalinga State Hospital. Singh has served as acting medical director since 2006. From 2003 to 2006, Singh worked as a resident at Napa State Hospital.
Singh's annual compensation will be $280,080. Senate confirmation is not required (Office of the Governor release, 10/16).
Salk Institute for Biological Studies
William Brody has been named president of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Previously, Brody served as president of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (Somers, San Diego Union-Tribune, 10/14).
Stanford Hospitals & Clinics
Stanford Hospitals & Clinics has named Daniel Ginsburg as COO, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal reports.
Ginsburg currently serves as senior vice president for cancer and women's programs at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also is president and COO of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, 10/29).
UC-San Francisco School of Dentistry
UC- San Francisco named John Featherstone dean of its school of dentistry, the San Francisco Business Times reports.
The appointment is retroactive to Sept. 1. Featherstone has been interim dean since August 2007 (San Francisco Business Times, 10/8).
Yolo County Health Department
Yolo County Health Officer Bette Hinton announced plans to retire from the position by the end of the year, the Sacramento Bee reports (Lindelof, Sacramento Bee, 10/23).
Hinton was a Sacramento County health officer for 10 years before taking the position in Yolo County (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 10/22).
