BloodSource/Blood Centers of the Pacific
Rob Van Tuyle, CEO of Sacramento-based BloodSource, has been named CEO of Blood Centers of the Pacific in San Francisco.
Last month, the two companies announced a merger. Van Tuyle will serve as CEO of both organizations (Arns, Sacramento Business Journal, 12/3/15).
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
On Dec. 18, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Howard Moseley (D) as chief deputy general counsel at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $148,272 (Office of the Governor release, 12/18/15).
On Dec. 28, Brown appointed Scott Kernan -- former COO at CDCR -- as secretary of the department.

California Department of Industrial Relations
On Dec. 28, Brown appointed Eric Berg (D) as deputy chief of health at the California Department of Industrial Relations' Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The position does not require Senate confirmation and compensation is $148,044.
Brown also appointed Debra Lee (D) as deputy chief of safety in the division. The position does not require Senate confirmation and compensation is $150,048 (Office of the Governor release, 12/28/15).
California Department of Rehabilitation
On Dec. 4, Brown appointed Maria Aliferis-Gjerde (D) as executive officer of the California Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities at the California Department of Rehabilitation.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $83,136.
California Department of Veterans Affairs
On Dec. 4, Brown appointed Thomas Jay Martin as assistant deputy secretary of veterans homes at the California Department of Veterans Affairs. The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $95,544.
Brown also appointed Coby Peterson as deputy secretary of veterans homes at the department. The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $132,396 (Office of the Governor release, 12/4/15).
On Dec. 18, Brown appointed Russell Atterberry (D) as undersecretary at the California Department of Veterans Affairs. The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $165,696 (Office of the Governor release, 12/18/15).
Meanwhile, Brown on Dec. 28 appointed Sherri Gastinell (R) as deputy secretary of administrative services at the department. The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $125,460 (Office of the Governor release, 12/28/15).
California Naturopathic Medicine Committee
On Dec. 18, Brown appointed Gregory Weisswasser to the California Naturopathic Medicine Committee.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $100 per diem (Office of the Governor release, 12/18/15).
On Dec. 29, Brown made two additional appointments to the committee:
- Dara Thompson (D); and
- Greta Hauck D'Amico.

California State Rehabilitation Council
On Dec. 14, Brown appointed Michael Thomas (D) to the California State Rehabilitation Council.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
David Engman, a molecular genetic pathologist, has been named chair of Cedar-Sinai Medical Center's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Engman previously served as president of the American Association of University Pathologists (Cedars-Sinai release, 12/16/15).
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America
California Assembly member Henry Perea (D-Fresno) has announced that he will leave the state Assembly before the end of his term.
Perea has accepted a position advising the industry group Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America on state policy (White, "Capitol Alert," Sacramento Bee, 12/22/15).
Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center
Michael Bell has been named COO of Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
Bell previously served as associate administrator of hospital operations at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield (Ames, San Luis Obispo Tribune, 12/29).
St. Joseph Health
Annette Walker has been named division president of St. Joseph Health's entities in California, Texas and New Mexico under a partnership with Providence Health & Services.
Walker previously served as St. Joseph Health's executive vice president of strategic services (St. Joseph Health release, 12/14/15).
UC-Davis School of Medicine
Frederick Meyers, former vice dean at the UC-Davis School of Medicine, has been selected to lead the school's new precision health initiative.
Meyers, who served as vice dean for seven years, started the new role on Jan. 1 (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 12/9/15).
