California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
On July 2, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Dean Borg (D) as deputy director of the Division of Facility Planning, Construction and Management at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $141,456 annually (Office of the Governor release, 7/2).
On July 16, Brown appointed Kenneth Pogue (D) as undersecretary of administration and offender services at CDCR. The position does not require Senate confirmation, and compensation is $165,804 (Office of the Governor release, 7/16).
California Endowment
Marta McKenzie has been appointed to the California Endowment's board of directors.
McKenzie worked for the Shasta County Public Health Department for 25 years, including six years as director of health and human services (Prina, Health Affairs, 7/6).
California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
Three individuals have been added to the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine's leadership team:
- Maria Bonneville, who previously served as executive director of the CIRM board, has been named director of administration;
- Ramona Doyle, former senior group medical director of respiratory product development at Genentech, has been named vice president of therapeutics; and
- Maria Millan, who previously served as medical officer at CIRM, has been named senior director of medical affairs (CIRM release, 7/1).
California State Independent Living Council
Robert McCarthy has been named legislative specialist at the California State Independent Living Council.
McCarthy's responsibilities will include implementing the State Plan for Independent Living, analyzing legislation about the disability community and providing SILC members with recommendations to discuss with policymakers (SILC release, 7/27).
California Wellness Foundation
Ernest Wilson has been elected to the California Wellness Foundation's board of directors.
Wilson is dean of the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism (USC release, 7/20).
Children's Hospital Los Angeles
Paul Viviano will become president and CEO of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, effective Aug. 24.
Viviano is leaving his positions as CEO of the UC-San Diego Health System and associate vice chancellor of UC-San Diego Health Sciences (Children's Hospital Los Angeles release, 7/7).
Children Now
Jim Keddy has been named vice president of Children Now.
Keddy previously served as vice president and chief learning officer at the California Endowment (Children Now release, 7/13).
Dignity Health
Chris Champlin has been named chief strategy officer at Dignity Health in the Sacramento area (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 7/10).
Meanwhile, Edmundo Castañeda, president of Dignity's Mercy General Hospital, has assumed the role of president of Mercy Hospital of Folsom (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 7/15).
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian
Michael Ricks has been named executive vice president and COO of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.
Ricks will be responsible for operations at Hoag's hospital campuses in Irvine and Newport Beach, as well as Hoag Health Centers in Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach (Hoag release, 7/20). Ricks previously served as president of Dignity Health's Mercy Hospital of Folsom (Sacramento Business Journal, 7/15).
Kaiser Permanente
Sandy Sharon has been named vice president and manager of Kaiser Permanente's Sacramento-area operations (Glover, Sacramento Bee, 7/7).
Sharon previously worked as COO at Kaiser's Roseville Medical Center.
Sharon succeeds Ron Groepper, who has been named senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Greater San Francisco (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 7/7).
Rady Pediatric and Systems Medicine Institute
Joseph Gleeson has been named an endowed chair in neuroscience at the Rady Pediatric and Systems Medicine Institute in San Diego.
Gleeson comes to the institute from Rockefeller University in New York City (Sisson, San Diego Union-Tribune, 7/19).
Tri-City Medical Center
Gene Ma has been named chief of staff at the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside.
He will hold the position from July 1 through June 30, 2016 (Alfonso, Carlsbad Patch, 7/7).
West Health Institute
Mark McClellan has been appointed to the boards of the West Health Institute in La Jolla and the West Health Policy Center in Washington, D.C.
McClellan is a former CMS administrator and FDA commissioner (Health Affairs, 7/6).
